The Itinerary

On the outskirts of Nairobi, Kibera represents a unique blend of contrasts—being part of one of Africa’s most developed cities while maintaining its own distinct character. While poverty is evident here, Kibera also radiates a strong sense of community and freedom.

Our guided Kibera tour spans 3 to 4 hours, including a 2 to 3-hour walk, and can be scheduled for the morning or afternoon. During the tour, you will visit several notable locations, including an orphanage and school founded by ‘Mama Tunza,’ an inspiring local woman who has dedicated her life to caring for children. At her children’s home, you’ll have the opportunity to witness her impactful work. You'll also explore a bead factory where discarded bones from butchers are creatively transformed into beautiful beads, showcasing the community's spirit of recycling and innovation. Additionally, you’ll be welcomed into a typical Kibera home, where you can learn firsthand about daily life in this vibrant community. Lastly, the tour includes a stop at the biogas center, offering a panoramic view of Kibera and an excellent spot for photos. Here, you’ll learn how even human waste is converted into valuable resources, underscoring the ingenuity and sustainability that thrives in Kibera.
