More Information
Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary
The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, located within Ol Pejeta Conservancy, was established through a partnership between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and the Jane Goodall Institute. The sanctuary provides a safe haven for orphaned and rescued chimpanzees from West and Central Africa, many of whom have been victims of illegal wildlife trade or have suffered abuse. These chimpanzees are often rescued from cramped, unnatural conditions and arrive at the sanctuary with injuries and trauma from their past. At Sweetwaters, they are given a chance to rehabilitate, thrive, and live out their lives in a natural environment that closely resembles their native habitat.
Mount Kenya
Rising to 5,199 meters, Mount Kenya is Africa’s second-highest mountain and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mountain’s scenery is nothing short of breathtaking, featuring a pristine wilderness that includes glacial peaks, lakes, tarns, dense forests, mineral springs, and unique montane and alpine vegetation. It is also home to a variety of rare and endangered species, as well as high-altitude adapted plains game. For adventure enthusiasts, Mount Kenya offers excellent opportunities for mountain climbing, camping, and caving, all set against the backdrop of rugged, glacier-clad peaks that make for an unforgettable experience.
